Kribi, Smart City

Major industrial infrastructures:

Deep water port

The first phase of the deep water port of Kribi was delivered in April 20157. Eventually, the port will be larger than that of Douala and will benefit from greater sea depth to accommodate larger ships. Its extension is planned over five years. There are also plans to develop specific terminals, including aluminum, hydrocarbon, alumina, ore, liquefied natural gas, etc. terminals.

The Kribi deep-water port project, due to its reception capacity and the diversity of its terminals, is destined to play a major role in Cameroon's future industrialization projects. The secretary general of the Prime Minister's office, Louis-Paul Motaze, chairman of the steering committee of the Kribi industrial-port complex, states on this subject: "the deep-water port of Kribi, by allowing the export in large masses of products resulting from the exploitation of Cameroon's mining deposits (iron, bauxite, natural gas in particular) and the importation of raw materials for local industries, will be a real lever for the industrialization of Cameroon and the competitiveness of its products. .

Gas plant, refinery and liquefaction plant

The construction of a gas refinery to process gas from Logbaba and a gas-fired thermal power plant to produce electricity for domestic needs and to market any surplus was approved in the early 1990s. 2000. The project was completed in 2013, part of the gas supply being from the Sanaga platform, off Kribi, and the capacity of the plant was to be increased from 216 MW to 330 MW. Tariff negotiations between the producer Perenco, the national hydrocarbons company and the operator of the plant, Kribi power development corporation could not succeed. A third project, providing for the liquefaction by the company Golar of gas from Sanaga in a former LNG tanker, was concluded in 2015, and Gazprom has undertaken to buy back all of the platform's liquefied natural gas production. Engie, which was to participate in the liquefaction project, announced its withdrawal in July 2016, due to unfavorable market conditions.
